Saturday March 23rd at 1700 hours, the NCSARAC will hold its Spring Meeting at the Burke County Spring Exercise. After four years serving as the Vice President and President I will be stepping down. I have enjoyed watching the Council grow and assist with adding additional training opportunities including the DuPont Rescue Experience and SARTREK. The Council has worked extensively with North Carolina Emergency Management and the Office of the State Fire Marshall to create training certifications which will increase the amount of qualified searchers serving North Carolina. In addition, I was very happy to bring back the annual Dave Carter Award for outstanding service to the citizens of North Carolina. I look forward to supporting a new President and assisting the Council to reach new heights as it strives to meet the search and rescue needs of our fine citizens.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Mr. Tim Miller, a dear friend of many of us in the North Carolina SAR community. His contributions to search and rescue are numerous and he will be deeply missed by all. Tim was a visionary in the area of disaster response, both in North Carolina and Nationally and many of us had the benefit of being mentored by Tim.
Please register for the Spring Exercise by going to NCEM.org and registering through TERMS. We look forward to seeing everyone there. We will hold our meeting the Saturday night of the exercise at 1730 hours.
NCEM's Western Branch Office was presented with the Dave Carter award for outstanding service to the citizens of North Carolina in the area of Search and Rescue during the DuPont Rescue Experience in November. They join Randy McKinney and Tim Miller as previous recipients of the award. Congratulations NCEM!
Sincerely,
Wike Graham
President, NCSARAC
