Dear Friends,
I wanted to take a few minutes in order to review my expectations and plans for the coming year. First, I want to thank Randy McKinney for his long term commitment to the SAR council and the work he put in last year as President. I would like to thank Dave Cook, Sheila Barrier, and Virgil Barrier for serving on the Board of Directors for the coming year. I would also like to thank Craig Bannerman for his work maintaining our website which is our primary means of communication with Council Members.
I have asked Dave Cook to Chair a Committee to create a self evaluation process for our teams which will allow each team to establish baselines and benchmarks based on their own needs. The self evaluation process will also help teams develop plans to reach the benchmarks they set. The committee will have their recommendations ready for the spring meeting of the Council. The process will not be mandatory or for certification purposes, simply a tool to help our teams reach their full potential and justify local budget requests.
I will work hard to increase our membership in the coming year and I am asking everyone to ensure they are caught up on dues to the Council. The Council will use a zero based budgeting process this year to ensure we are fiscally responsible with your dues. We will work closely with North Carolina Emergency Management and local governments to carry out the Council’s mission. There will be two official meetings for the Council in the coming year, one in August in the central part of the state and one in March during the Spring Exercise.
Lastly, we will honor one of our own during the month of October by establishing a Search and Rescuer of the year award. This honor will be delivered at a location to be announced. Please send nominations to me by October 1st and the Board will make a selection based on merit. I am looking forward to a productive year and hope to see all of you soon.
Our mission is to foster communications statewide and to provide and coordinate personnel, equipment, education and training for the effective delivery of Search and Rescue in the state of North Carolina.
Sincerely,
Wike Graham
2010-2011 NCSARAC President
